Add Cool Hues to Spring Classics
Chockfull of rich purple-blue petals! As the name suggests, this double-flowering Anemone resembles a peony. The lacy foliage of Anemone Peony Blue complements the flowers. After flowering, the foliage will die back during the plant’s dormant period. The lush blossoms are stunning in cut-flower arrangements. *NOTE: Bulbs will need to be lifted in fall in zones 3-6.

Anemone coronaria 'Peony Blue'

Anemone General Information

Anemone coronaria offers brightly colored blooms with striking dark centers. These flowers create a vibrant splash of color in late spring gardens and containers, and make excellent cut flowers. Delicate, finely cut foliage beautifully complements the blossoms before dying back during the plant's dormant period. While Anemone coronaria typically lasts one season in colder zones, they can be lifted and stored over winter (thriving perennially in zones 7-10). Overwintering instructions are available. Our Anemone coronaria are guaranteed to reach you in good condition and to grow, but our guarantee does not cover winter losses.

Anemone Plant Care

After the danger of frost has passed, prepare Anemone coronaria corms by soaking them overnight in lukewarm water to encourage growth. Plant in sunny to part-shade locations with rich, well-drained soil, grouping corms for the most striking display. In sandy or clay soils, amend with peat moss by spreading 3-4" of amendment mixed with fertilizer and incorporating it to a 10-inch depth. Space corms 3-4" apart and 4" deep, watering thoroughly at planting and during growth. While Anemones naturally return in zones 7-10, gardeners in cooler zones can overwinter tubers by following these Instructions. In zones 3-6, lift corms in fall after foliage yellows, then dry them in the sun for a few days and store in sand at 50-60 degrees Fahrenheit. For an early start, sow indoors 4-6 weeks before the last frost, then transplant outdoors when temperatures stabilize.
