A Multi-Stemmed Shrub
Get in the garden groove! Plant our Instant Karma for an enviable garden specimen pleasing to the eye and soul. Blue green leaves edged with gold – variegation will transform to cream. Big lacy, pure white flowers in late spring intensify its beauty. No berries (often preferred). However, to cross-pollinate, plant within 60' of another variety of Sambucus to yield purple berries for the birds in fall. Proven Winners® selections are trialed and tested to be colorful, long blooming, carefree and easy to grow.

Sambucus General Information

Sambucus nigra is a deciduous multi-stemmed shrub grown primarily for foliage color. Ornamental fruit will develop in autumn if a pollinator is near. Prefers a moist soil but will adapt to dry soils. Idaho has restricted all potted plant material from being shipped into Idaho at this time.

Sambucus Plant Care

Responds well to hard pruning each spring while dormant. Cut back older stems to the ground and one-year old wood by 1/2. Remove suckers at the base as they appear. Sambucus blooms on old wood.
