This flowering shrub provides non-stop interest! Bronzy cinnamon spring and fall foliage transforms to sparkling burgundy in summer. White spirea-like flowers in spring give way to red seed heads. Textured peeling bark supplies winter appeal as it reveals its layers of reddish to light brown inner bark.

Physocarpus Ginger Wine® is a stunning backdrop in the border or a beautiful stand-alone specimen. Ninebark is extremely low-maintenance as its natural elegant habit requires little to no pruning. Provide plenty of space with good air circulation. Proven Winners® selections are trialed and tested to be colorful, long blooming, carefree and easy to grow.

Physocarpus General Information

Physocarpus are deciduous shrubs with arching branches. An easy-to-grow, all-purpose shrub will adapt to a wide variety of conditions. Spiraea-like flower clusters.

Physocarpus Plant Care

Ninebark is best left unpruned to retain its naturally elegant habit; however; every few years or so in late winter, remove any old wood to the ground to encourage new shoots. Blooms on old wood, so shaping is best done just after flowering, and only if needed. Drought tolerant once established.
