Dwarf Bearded Iris are the smallest of Bearded Irises, with a height of up to 18". They are also the earliest to bloom. They are most effective in rock gardens or planted in drifts where they make a carpet of color. Idaho has restricted all potted plant material from being shipped into Idaho at this time.
Iris thrive in well-drained soils and should be planted so the tops of the rhizomes are exposed and the roots are spread out facing downward into the soil. Establish plants with deep watering at long intervals rather than more frequent shallow waterings. Drought tolerant once established. Divide every 3-4 years. Thin clumps before they become overcrowded. Benefits from a light application of balanced fertilizer in early spring and again about a month after bloom.
