Hydrangea quercifolia 'Gatsby Pink®' (Pending 'JoAnn')
Hydrangea are superb in the border for summer and autumn color. This shade-tolerant shrub is perfect for under trees and in the shadows of buildings. Provides winter interest too if flowers are left on. Great for indoor decorating as their flowers are easily dried.
Hydrangea quercifolia thrives in partial shade to mostly sunny locations. Can tolerate full sun, especially in cooler climates. In warmer climates, they prefer some afternoon shade to prevent leaf scorch. Plant in a location with good air circulation, rich, well-draining soil and consistent moisture. Dead or damaged branches can be removed in early spring, but minimal pruning is needed. Any desired pruning should be done before August to avoid damaging next year's flower buds. Apply a balanced fertilizer in spring and mulch around the base for winter protection.
