A living privacy screen, this variegated form of C. Karl Foerster flaunts foliage with deep green borders accented with central creamy white stripes. Pink-tinged plumes in summer age to tawny wheat-like spikes for a bold vertical accent.
The seeds from Calamagrostis Avalanche are sterile so no worries of this ornamental grass being too aggressive. A cool-season, clump-forming grass.

Calamagrostis acutiflora 'Avalanche'
Calamagrostis are prized for the bold vertical accent that they lend to the border. Among the earliest flowering grasses, they are very mannerly and stay attractive all winter. Thrives in clay and wet soils. A favorite vertical grass. Reliable! Ornamental Grasses and Sedges are restricted from Idaho and Oregon.
Cut back in early spring to approximately 6-12" before new growth appears. Divide in spring or fall. Attractive seedheads add winter interest and provide food for the birds.
Our plants are grown in 3.5x3.5x4” plantable pots. Made from 100% biodegradable coconut husk fibers (coir), these pots have tremendous advantages over plastic pots. With better air exchange, this "breathable" pot fosters robust root growth and reduces transplant shock since you can plant the pots directly in the ground. The pot naturally becomes part of the soil on its own over time—no composting required—and since they're made from a renewable resource that requires very little energy, they're earth-friendly too!
