Lily 'Claude Shride'
Exotic looking! Be patient with Martagon Lilies as sometimes the 1st year they focus their energy on establishing roots and bulb growth; however, season 2 should produce a jaw-dropping display. They bloom just before and with the Asiatic Lilles and are hardy down to zone 3. Martagon Lilies once mature can produce a profusion of flowers on a single stem - a butterfly favorite!
Plant in fertile, moist, well-drained soil in full sun to light shade. These plants do not tolerate alkaline soil. Plant 6" deep in groups of three for best display and space 6-12 apart. Cut off spent flower stalks once the petals have fallen, trimming them back to just above a pair of leaves. Leave as much stem and as many leaves as possible as they nourish the bulb for next year's blooms. Do not remove or cut back stalks until complete dieback has occurred in the fall, it could weaken the bulb. Taller varieties will require staking. Visit our Fall-Planted Bulb Guide for more information.
