Botanical Name

Phlox x arendsii 'Babyface'

Phlox General Information

Phlox arendsii hybrids are crosses between Phlox paniculata and Phlox divaricata, and are noted for having the attractive, lightly fragrant flowers of the former combined with the compact form of the latter. This is an upright perennial that typically grows in a clump on sturdy stems. Showy blooms make excellent cut flowers and tolerant of Black Walnut / Juglone

Phlox Plant Care

Grow in moderately fertile, medium moisture, well-drained soil in full sun to part shade. Avoid overhead watering and ensure good air circulation (space well and thin out stems as needed) to help prevent potential powdery mildew. Intolerant of drought and may need supplemental watering in dry spells. Appreciates a summer mulch which helps keep the root zone cool but keep any mulch from touching the stem or foliage. Plant stems usually do not need staking. Clean up spent foliage in spring. Can be divided every 3-5 years in spring or fall.

Plantable Pots

Our plants are grown in 3.5x3.5x4” plantable pots. Made from 100% biodegradable coconut husk fibers (coir), these pots have tremendous advantages over plastic pots. With better air exchange, this "breathable" pot fosters robust root growth and reduces transplant shock since you can plant the pots directly in the ground. The pot naturally becomes part of the soil on its own over time—no composting required—and since they're made from a renewable resource that requires very little energy, they're earth-friendly too!
