Narrow arching blades of dark green with a central white ribbon on a strong upright silhouette. Copper-tinged white plumes rise on purple stems in late summer to twirl and dance above the graceful foliage. (7’)

Miscanthus Arabesque is perfect for adding textural interest to your garden landscape. Attractive in large containers or plant in mass for screening. Northern gardeners can achieve the look of Pampas Grass (too tender for the north) with Miscanthus.

Miscanthus General Information

Miscanthus are the royalty of the grass kingdom with billowy texture, silky tassels, many different heights and colorations and great winter interest. Seeds are carried by a feathery plume above the plant. Pleasing sound when rustling in the wind. Deer resistant. Good for hot dry spots, also dries easily. Ornamental Grasses are restricted from Idaho and Oregon.

Miscanthus Plant Care

Cut foliage back in late winter before new shoots appear. Divide in late spring when needed. Shear back foliage, divide clumps with a sharp spade and discard woody centers. Replant divisions and water well. May self sow for our Southern gardeners. Cut off plumes to prevent seeding. Benefits from a well-drained winter site.

Plantable Pots

Our plants are grown in 3.5x3.5x4” plantable pots. Made from 100% biodegradable coconut husk fibers (coir), these pots have tremendous advantages over plastic pots. With better air exchange, this "breathable" pot fosters robust root growth and reduces transplant shock since you can plant the pots directly in the ground. The pot naturally becomes part of the soil on its own over time—no composting required—and since they're made from a renewable resource that requires very little energy, they're earth-friendly too!
