Heptacodium miconioides 'Temple of Bloom®' (PP30,763 'SMNHMRF')
Heptacodium have an upright spreading, multi-stemmed habit. After the white flowers have fallen, the remaining calyces develop a deep red color lasting into November and are as visually enticing as the flowers. Seven Son Flower also displays interesting exfoliating bark - a must-have deciduous shrub.
To establish a deep, extensive root system, follow a regular watering schedule the first year. Before new growth appears in spring, apply a general purpose fertilizer. Fast grower. Can be pruned into an elegant vase-shaped specimen, or maintained as a shrub. If pruning is desired, prune in late winter or very early spring, as the flower buds begin to set shortly after the plant leafs out.
