Crocosmia 'Emily McKenzie'
Sprays of star-like flowers in intense shades open in succession from the bottom up. A popular choice for pollinator and cut flower gardens. Slender strap-like leaves form spiky foliage clumps for vertical interest even when not flowering. All our accent annuals are guaranteed to reach you in good condition and to grow, but we can't guarantee annuals to overwinter. Will be an annual except in zones 6-9 but can be stored over the winter in colder zones. Instructions
Hardy in Zones 6-9. Crocosmia grow best in moist, humus-rich, well-drained soil in full sun. Avoid heavy clay sites. Plant the corms 6-8” apart at a depth of 3-5” once the threat of frost and/or freezing temperatures have subsided. For best appearance, plant in clusters. Feed after initial planting with a balance, slow-release fertilizer formulated for bulbs. Flowers self-clean and give way to attractive seedpods. Leave foliage in place to nourish next year’s growth. Lift corms in the fall in zones 3-5. Cut foliage back to about 2” in late fall after the first frost and carefully dig up the bulb. Cormlets will develop along the plant’s roots. Gently twist the offsets from the main corm and store in a cool, dry location, and replant in spring.
