Acidanthera General Information
Well suited to container growing. Acidanthera bulbs may take a couple of months to sprout initially, developing their roots underground before foliage appears, but once growth begins, it's relatively rapid. Full bloom is usually achieved by late summer or early autumn, with foliage lasting until the first frosts. Acidanthera will only last one year (except in zones 7-10) but can be lifted and stored over the winter in colder zones. Here are Instructions for doing that. Our Acidanthera are guaranteed to reach you in good condition and to grow, but our guarantee does not cover winter losses.
Acidanthera Plant Care
Hardy in Zones 7-10. Acidanthera should be grown in full sun with warm, well-drained soil. With clay soil, amend or grow Acidanthera in containers. Acidanthera can be started indoors four to six weeks before the frost-free outdoor planting date if desired, then transferred outside when danger of frost has subsided - around the same time you plant your tomatoes. In containers, plant the corms a little closer approximately 3” apart. Plant large corms 5” apart and 5-6” deep, smaller corms 4” deep. Acidanthera will return next year in zones 7-10, but corms can be lifted, overwintered, and replanted in zones 3-6 by following these Instructions. Allow the foliage to yellow before cutting it back.
