Peony General Information
Peonies are known for their large, colorful many-petaled blossoms. A classic garden favorite. Fragrant blooms and lush foliage have made them loved for years. Abundant blooming begins usually in the 3rd season.
Peony Plant Care
Plant eyes 2 inches deep and 3-4 feet apart to allow for expansion of the clump and good air circulation. Peonies may need 2-3 years of maturity before producing significant flowering but so worth the wait! Position grow-through supports when plants are just a few inches tall to preserve upright habit when in bloom. Likes full sun and well-drained soil; however, in warmer climates, blooms will last longer with some shade during the hottest part of the day. Keep mulch away from base of plant, as it will react as though it is planted too deeply and yield less flowers. Prune foliage to ground in the fall. Rarely needs divided. Peonies dislike being moved.
