Hyacinth General Information

This sensational spring duo contains flower bulbs that are complementary in height and bloom in unison. Hyacinth are best known for their intense, sweet fragrance. Blooming in mid-spring, each bulb produces a single, densely flowered spike of tubular blooms in a range of colors including blue, purple, pink, red, and white. Use in outdoor landscapes, planted in mass or containers, particularly effective when grouped in clusters of 5 or more. Can also be forced indoors for winter blooms. Hyacinth can return year after year, making them a great addition to rock gardens, borders, and sensory gardens.

Hyacinth Plant Care

In fall, plant in well-drained, organically rich soil and full sun. Space 4-6” apart and 6” deep. Consider planting in clusters of 5-6 bulbs for a stunning display. Keep the soil consistently moist during the spring growing season. Taper off watering after blooming as the bulbs head towards dormancy. Remove spent flower spikes but leave the foliage to direct the plant's energy towards next year’s growth. After the foliage yellows, it can be cut back to the ground. Visit our Fall-Planted Bulb Guide for more information. *Note: Wear gloves when planting bulbs to prevent any possible skin irritation.
