Enchanting Two-Tone Effect
Cup-shaped flowers with captivating gray-blue outer petals that surround vibrant violet-blue inner petals create a harmonious, two-tone effect. Bright orange stamens enhance their appeal. Their hardiness, bunch-flowering habit, and eye-catching colors make Crocus a staple in the garden. They multiply rapidly and bloom early, which helps to extend the gardening season. Add Crocus Whale Shark at the front of borders, in rock gardens, beneath trees, in lawns, or in naturalized areas that could benefit from some early springtime charm.

Crocus General Information

Crocus can be successfully grown in a lawn, under trees, or in sunny woodland areas. Large sweeping drifts can be spectacular. Group in rock gardens, in front of shrubs, border edges, or along walkways. Flowers close at night and open up in the morning but may remain closed on rainy/cloudy days. Naturalize well.

Crocus Plant Care

Plant in fall in well-drained soil in full sun to part shade. Thrives in sandy or gritty soil. Plant bulbs about 3-4” deep and 3-6” apart. Will go dormant by late spring. Hold off on mowing the lawn in spring until the Crocus foliage begins to yellow and die back. Visit our Fall-Planted Bulb Guide for more information.
