Corydalis solida 'Beth Evans'
Fumewort is a charming wildflower native to rocky woodlands. This clump-forming plant features soft, waxy, blue-green foliage that resembles fern fronds. It produces fragrant, dangling clusters of tube-shaped blooms. Narrow, seed pods appear after the flowering season has ended. Well-suited for a rock garden, cottage garden, or woodland setting, where its delicate flowers and fern-like foliage can add texture and interest.
Plant 4-6” apart and 4” deep in moist, well-drained, organically rich soils in part shade to full shade. Prefers cool summer climates. If foliage significantly fades in hot summers, plants may be cut back. In zone 5, plant in protected location for winter hardiness. A basal rosette of blue-green foliage forms in the first year. Starting in its second season, it will send up many branched stems that will flower in spring. If the foliage is cut back after blooming, a sparse rebloom may occur later in the summer or early fall. May go dormant in hot, dry summers. In cool summer climates, plants may bloom throughout the summer and into fall. Once mature, can be divided in the fall.
