Peony General Information

Peonies are known for their large, colorful many-petaled blossoms. A classic garden favorite. Fragrant blooms and lush foliage have made them loved for years. Abundant blooming begins usually in the 3rd season. Idaho has restricted all potted plant material from being shipped into Idaho at this time.

Peony Plant Care

Peonies may need 2-3 years of maturity before producing significant flowering but so worth the wait! Position grow-through supports when plants are just a few inches tall to preserve upright habit when in bloom. Likes full sun and well-drained soil; however, in warmer climates, blooms will last longer with some shade during the hottest part of the day. Keep mulch away from base of plant, as it will react as though it is planted too deeply and yield less flowers. Prune foliage to ground in the fall. Rarely needs divided. Peonies dislike being moved.

Plantable Pots

Our plants are grown in 3.5x3.5x4” plantable pots. Made from 100% biodegradable coconut husk fibers (coir), these pots have tremendous advantages over plastic pots. With better air exchange, this "breathable" pot fosters robust root growth and reduces transplant shock since you can plant the pots directly in the ground. The pot naturally becomes part of the soil on its own over time—no composting required—and since they're made from a renewable resource that requires very little energy, they're earth-friendly too!
