Botanical Name

Ligustrum ovalifolium 'Good Vibrations®' (PP34,245 'NCL01')

Ligustrum General Information

Ligustrum ovalifolium is a robust deciduous shrub native to Japan and Korea. This fast-growing species has been widely cultivated since the Victorian era. Privet quickly develops into a dense, leafy shrub perfect for hedges and privacy screening. Its adaptability to urban conditions, tolerance of pollution, and ability to thrive in various soils have made it a mainstay in both public and private landscapes. Non-invasive.

Ligustrum Plant Care

Plant in fertile, well-draining soil in full sun to partial shade, allowing adequate space between plants for air circulation. Best foliage color develops in full sun. While adaptable to various soil types, this privet prefers consistent moisture until established. Once established, it shows excellent heat tolerance and drought resistance. Pruning is not required unless a formal shape is desired - its slow growth rate naturally minimizes maintenance needs. Prune in late winter or early spring to maintain shape. Fertilize lightly in spring with a balanced fertilizer. Watch for leaf spot in humid conditions, but overall, this variety shows good disease resistance.

Plantable Pots

Our plants are grown in 3.5x3.5x4” plantable pots. Made from 100% biodegradable coconut husk fibers (coir), these pots have tremendous advantages over plastic pots. With better air exchange, this "breathable" pot fosters robust root growth and reduces transplant shock since you can plant the pots directly in the ground. The pot naturally becomes part of the soil on its own over time—no composting required—and since they're made from a renewable resource that requires very little energy, they're earth-friendly too!
