First to Bloom and Beautiful in Fall Too
Tropical-looking, intense rosy-pink flower clusters of Lagerstroemia Peppermint Mocha open from rounded, red buds that resemble berries. The most floriferous member of the Barista series, it is also the first to bloom in the summer. This fast-growing shrub features glossy, dark green leaves and woody, burgundy-red stems, making it an eye-catching garden feature even when not in bloom. After the flowers fade, beautiful green seed pods develop, adding fall interest as they dry and change color. Now northern gardeners to Zone 6 can enjoy Crapemyrtle too!

Lagerstroemia General Information

A member of the Barista Collection, this Crape Myrtle blooms on new wood. All members in this collection are based on plant performance in Michigan. In Zone 6, they will die back to the ground in winter and bloom on new wood in late summer. In warmer zones without winter dieback, mature height will be taller.

Lagerstroemia Plant Care

Crape Myrtle thrives in full sun with moist, well-drained soil. Drought tolerant, once established. In Zone 6, they will die back to the ground in winter. In warmer zones only prune as necessary for visual pleasure in late winter or early spring. Remove suckers, tangled branches, or irregular shapes. Not demanding about soil pH but they prefer neutral or slightly acidic soils. Avoid too much fertilizer. A slow-release fertilizer high in nitrogen is best.

Plantable Pots

Our plants are grown in 3.5x3.5x4” plantable pots. Made from 100% biodegradable coconut husk fibers (coir), these pots have tremendous advantages over plastic pots. With better air exchange, this "breathable" pot fosters robust root growth and reduces transplant shock since you can plant the pots directly in the ground. The pot naturally becomes part of the soil on its own over time—no composting required—and since they're made from a renewable resource that requires very little energy, they're earth-friendly too!
