Exotic magenta purple blossoms with dark veining are outlined in white; each petal displaying a showy flame of yellow toward the throat. Iris Happy Awakening are ideal for a bog garden, along a stream or pond as plant will even grow in 4” of water. Attracts butterflies, but not deer.

Japanese Irises have been cultivated in Japan for over 500 years and once were restricted to enjoyment by royalty only. Combines well with Ferns and Astilbe.

Iris General Information

Japanese Iris display some of the most spectacular flowers of all the Irises. Blooms are large, ruffled and flat in form. The last Iris to bloom-generally several weeks after the Bearded Iris. Perfect beside a stream or a pond. Idaho has restricted all potted plant material from being shipped into Idaho at this time.

Iris Plant Care

Requires ample moisture in a slightly acid, heavy, rich soil with ample organic matter. In Spring, if rainfall is not sufficient, give extra water until bloom time. Heavy feeders, apply a balanced fertilizer such as 12-12-12 in spring just before blooming.

Plantable Pots

Our plants are grown in 3.5x3.5x4” plantable pots. Made from 100% biodegradable coconut husk fibers (coir), these pots have tremendous advantages over plastic pots. With better air exchange, this "breathable" pot fosters robust root growth and reduces transplant shock since you can plant the pots directly in the ground.
