Heuchera x 'Little Cuties™ Coco Loco' (Pending)
Heuchera make excellent border plants with their nearly evergreen, maple-like foliage in neat clumps, often in shades of silver, gold, or burgundy. Dainty flowers are held aloft on airy stems late spring through summer. These versatile perennials can also be used in a shady courtyard pot or under deciduous trees. Will keep their leaves in milder climates or moderate winters but may experience some die-back in colder regions or during severe winters.
Prefers well-drained, consistently moist soil amended with organic matter. Be careful not to bury the crowns when planting. Dislike heavy clay. Sun exposure needs vary by variety but generally prefers some shade. Deadheading spent flowers to encourage additional bloom summer into fall. A loose winter mulch of compost, pine branches, or straw applied after the ground freezes will help prevent root heaving. Ensure that any mulch does not touch the stem of the plant or cover the crown and that it is removed once spring arrives. Must have good drainage over the winter, though, so don't over-do the overwintering mulching. Shear off any damaged leaves in early spring to make room for new foliage. Divide in spring every 3 or 4 years to extend lifespan.
