Coreopsis rosea 'Sweet Dreams' (PP12,720)
Coreopsis rosea form masses of upward-facing flowers over needle-like, thread-leafed, soft-textured foliage. Long blooming and easy to grow, they come in various heights and many shades of yellow, reds, pink, and white.
Plant in a full sun to mostly sunny area. Thrives in infertile sandy and rocky soils and tolerates drought, low levels of salt, infertile soil, heat, and humidity. If the soil is too rich (over fertilized) or too moist, stems may become weak and plants tend to flop. Prune Coreopsis frequently throughout its blooming period by deadheading faded flowers to promote continuous flowering. Shearing the plant by 1/3 to 1/2 after blooming will encourage a more compact shape and may promote a second flush of blooms in the fall. At the end of the growing season, after the first frost, you can prune Coreopsis back to prepare it for winter dormancy. Cut the plant back to about 4-6 inches above the ground to remove old stems and stimulate healthy growth in spring. Leave new fall foliage growth at the base for overwintering. Alternatively, you can wait until early spring before new growth starts to perform this hard pruning. Clumps will spread by rhizomes and can be divided every 2-3 years. It will also self-seed.
Our plants are grown in 3.5x3.5x4” plantable pots. Made from 100% biodegradable coconut husk fibers (coir), these pots have tremendous advantages over plastic pots. With better air exchange, this "breathable" pot fosters robust root growth and reduces transplant shock since you can plant the pots directly in the ground. The pot naturally becomes part of the soil on its own over time—no composting required—and since they're made from a renewable resource that requires very little energy, they're earth-friendly too!
