Star-shaped purple flowers flaunt creamy white anthers. The broad-leaved foliage is blanketed in 1 ½” flowers from early to mid summer. Non-vining, its vigorous upright habit can be tied to a trellis or will spread 40” wide if allowed to ramble as a billowing groundcover.
Because Clematis Violet Stardust is a non-vining Bush Clematis, it will benefit by supplying neighboring plants or cages/stakes for support. This variety will die completely to the ground; therefore no pruning is needed.
Clematis are prized for their incredible flowers, most as large as your hand. "Queen of the Climbers" will train onto trellises, fences or arch over doorways. Stunning when used alone or when several colors are mixed. Grower's tip: Truest colors require full sun, as any shade will introduce purple tones. Flower color and bloom size may vary while the plant is establishing.
Idaho has restricted all potted plant material from being shipped into Idaho
at this time.
No pruning should be needed, but treat as a Type 2 if necessary. Pruning Type 2 - In this group all first flowering comes from last season's ripening stems. In early Spring watch for swelling leaf buds beginning to show. Cut all dead material off above these swelling buds. Be sure all growth is tied to the trellis, etc. at this time. Do not tie too tightly, so growth will not be hampered or cracked. If intertwining Clematis, pruning will be easier if you select varieties with the same pruning type.
