Deep mauve pink florets explode above the white bracts tipped in burgundy. Plant Astrantia near a patio or walkway where you can marvel at the intricate detail of this unique flower. Each pincushion-like bloom is prized for fresh or dried floral arrangements. Picking flowers results in even more blooms.

For added interest, bracts will remain attractive after flowers fade. Astrantia have been cultivated in Britain since the 16th century.

Astrantia General Information

Flowerheads remain attractive for a long time. Astrantia is an old cottage-garden favorite, but works well in contemporary-style gardens, too. Perfectly suited towards the front of a mostly sunny site or at a woodland edge. Excellent filler plant and cut flower. Does not seed; clump will widen politely over time.

Astrantia Plant Care

Astrantia love any moist soil. They do not like to dry out. Can be cut back to new growth at base of plant if foliage declines in hot summers. Leave new basal growth for winter. Divide in spring or fall every 4-5 years.
