A ruff of papery petal bracts cradles domed strawberry pink and cream umbels bursting from the center like mini fireworks. Prized for both cut and dried flowers. A great pollinator attractor! Native to moist areas near streams and perfectly suited for sun-dappled areas below open trees.
The graceful flowers of Astrantia Sparkling Stars Pink dance on wiry stems above its palm-shaped foliage. The garden will be abuzz with activity as Masterwort is adored by butterflies and bees.
Flowerheads remain attractive for a long time. Astrantia is an old cottage-garden favorite, but works well in contemporary-style gardens, too. Perfectly suited towards the front of a mostly sunny site or at a woodland edge. Excellent filler plant and cut flower.
Idaho has restricted all potted plant material from being shipped into Idaho
at this time.
Astrantia are happiest in a moist soil that drains well and would not be happy in a hot dry site. Remove spent flowers to prevent self-seeding. Can be cut back to new growth at base of plant if foliage declines in hot summers. Leave new basal growth for winter. Divide in spring or fall every 4-5 years.
