Variegation appears as 'bands' across the blade, rather than lengthwise, giving a dappled shimmery appearance from a distance. Strong stems retain the shape of the clump even in wind. Plumes emerge burgundy-red maturing to beige. Improved habit over earlier 'banded' Miscanthus Grasses.

Northern gardeners can achieve the look of Pampas Grass (too tender for the north) with Miscanthus.

Miscanthus General Information:

Miscanthus are the royalty of the grass kingdom, with billowy texture, silky tassels, many different heights and colorations, and great winter interest. Seeds are carried by a feathery plume above the plant. Pleasing sound when rustling in the wind. Deer resistant. Good for hot dry spots, also dries easily. Ornamental grasses cannot be shipped to Oregon, sorry.

Miscanthus Plant Care:

Grows more slowly than most Miscanthus. Cut foliage back in late winter before new shoots appear. Divide in spring when necessary. Plants do not produce viable seed. Benefits from a well drained winter site.
