Miscanthus Gold Bar

Maiden Grass, Eulalia

Note: This is an archive page preserved for informational use.
Cultural and Growing Info is provided below.

Stronger stems and more compact.

Variegation appears as 'bands' across the blade, rather than lengthwise, giving a dappled shimmery appearance from a distance. Strong stems retain the shape of the clump even in wind. Plumes emerge burgundy-red maturing to beige. Improved habit over earlier 'banded' Miscanthus Grasses.

Northern gardeners can achieve the look of Pampas Grass (too tender for the north) with Miscanthus.

Miscanthus General Information

Miscanthus are the royalty of the grass kingdom with billowy texture, silky tassels, many different heights and colorations and great winter interest. Seeds are carried by a feathery plume above the plant. Pleasing sound when rustling in the wind. Deer resistant. Good for hot dry spots, also dries easily. Ornamental Grasses are restricted from Idaho and Oregon. Idaho has restricted all potted plant material from being shipped into Idaho at this time.

Miscanthus Plant Care

Grows more slowly than most Miscanthus. Cut foliage back in late winter before new shoots appear. Divide in spring when necessary. Plants do not produce viable seed. Benefits from a well drained winter site.

Plantable Pots

Our plants are grown in 3.5x3.5x4” plantable pots. Made from 100% biodegradable coconut husk fibers (coir), these pots have tremendous advantages over plastic pots. With better air exchange, this "breathable" pot fosters robust root growth and reduces transplant shock since you can plant the pots directly in the ground. The pot naturally becomes part of the soil on its own over time—no composting required—and since they're made from a renewable resource that requires very little energy, they're earth-friendly too!
