Fuchsia-pink flowers bloom earlier than classic Lobelia and will tolerate more sun. Expect the vigorous starry flowers on upright ebony spikes to continue at warp speed from mid-summer into fall. From the Starship™ Series, this Cardinal Flower will handle more sun than classic varieties; however, some shade is beneficial when sited in drier locations. Butterflies and hummingbirds won’t miss even one episode of the nectar-laden treats.

Lobelia Starship Deep Rose is a bushy plant with green, lance-shaped foliage. Often seen along woodland paths but will still offer strong performance in perennial beds and border gardens with moist, well-drained soil. Well-suited for use in rain gardens, around ponds and streams and other moist areas. Pairs well with Ferns or Heuchera.

Lobelia General Information

Lobelia are perfect for the spot in your garden that just stays too wet for most plants. Spires of colorful hood-like flowers open from bottom to top. Will naturalize along ditches and streams. Butterflies like them too. Idaho has restricted all potted plant material from being shipped into Idaho at this time.

Lobelia Plant Care

Prefers fertile, evenly moist soil. Can be divided every 2-3 years in spring. Allow to self sow. Winter over with stems on. Can be pinched back before flowering to produce more compact plants. May benefit from light winter mulch north of zone 6.
