Verbena canadensis 'Canadensis'
Verbena are prolific bloomers! Only a week of upper 90 degree heat has ever stopped this informal plant from flowering. The next week it was back to its showy self. Makes a mat of dark green, dissected leaves on stems that sprawl and spread and are covered all season long with bright flower clusters from May to season's end. Gardeners in the north may also enjoy overwintering a few cuttings inside.
Prefers full sun in well-drained soil. Must cut back spent blossoms to encourage new blooms. Remove top 1/4 of plant periodically to force new buds. Plants will have a sprawling habit which can be trained into a more compact shape through regular pruning.
