Enchanting on Your Doorstep
This easy to grow variety of Primrose features exceptionally dark violet-blue flowers that last throughout early spring. Primula Violetta has a compact, mounded habit, resembling a beautiful flower bouquet whether planted in the ground or in a container. The ancient Celts were thought to believe that large patches of primroses were a gateway to the fairy realm and a favored flower of the fairies, so be sure to add a pot of them on your doorstep to encourage their goodwill. Primula are shipped during our spring season only.

Primula General Information

Primula are delightful in the woodland or shade garden. Flowers begin as tight little buds in the center of wavy cabbage green leaves. The Bouquet Perfect™ Series Primroses were developed for good performance in the garden or for planting in containers and window boxes. The well-rounded habit of this series appears like the top of a flower bouquet. The large flowers of this series will delight gardeners with early bloom. Sterile flowers result in plants that are particularly long blooming also.

Primula Plant Care

Grows best in boggy or consistently moist, compost-rich soil. Don't let the shallow roots dry out. Primula will tolerate some morning sun with afternoon shade. Can be divided every 2 to 3 years right after bloom or in early fall. Be sure to replant so that the crown is just above the soil surface. Provide some protection over winter.

Plantable Pots

Our plants are grown in 3.5x3.5x4” plantable pots. Made from 100% biodegradable coconut husk fibers (coir), these pots have tremendous advantages over plastic pots. With better air exchange, this "breathable" pot fosters robust root growth and reduces transplant shock since you can plant the pots directly in the ground. The pot naturally becomes part of the soil on its own over time—no composting required—and since they're made from a renewable resource that requires very little energy, they're earth-friendly too!
