Philadelphus coronarius 'Illuminati Tower®' (PP31,865 'SMNPVG')
Philadelphus coronarius is a beloved garden shrub treasured for its profuse display of fragrant white flowers from late spring to early summer. The four-petaled blooms have a sweet citrus scent that attracts pollinators and creates a delightful garden atmosphere. This long-lived, deciduous shrub features dark green leaves that provide an attractive backdrop throughout the growing season. Native to southeastern Europe and Asia Minor, Mockorange has been a garden favorite for centuries, prized for its reliability, low maintenance nature, and contribution to both formal and informal garden designs. The scientific name Philadelphus translates to “Brotherly Love.”
Plant in full sun to partial shade in well-draining soil. While adaptable to various soil types, it performs best in organically rich, moist soil with regular watering until established. This hardy shrub requires minimal care once established and is resistant to drought and wind. Prune immediately after flowering to maintain shape and encourage next year's blooms, as flowers form on prior year’s growth. Dark brown bark exfoliates with age. Remove any dead or damaged branches during late winter cleanup.
