Cold Hardy Carpet of Color
This incredibly hardy, spreading evergreen offers the perfect solution for challenging landscape spots where other plants struggle. Its soft, fern-like foliage creates a graceful carpet that grows uniformly along the ground, making it an excellent choice for erosion control on slopes or as a low-maintenance alternative to Juniper. While the feathery green foliage provides year-round interest, winter transforms the plant with rich russet tones. Microbiota Celtic Pride is exceptionally disease resistant and thrives in both sunny spots and light shade. Even in poor soil and dry conditions, this resilient plant maintains its dense, attractive form without the tip dieback that often affects similar species.

Botanical Name

Microbiota decussata 'Celtic Pride®' (Pending 'Prides')

Microbiota General Information

Microbiota decussata is a unique evergreen that brings the beauty of lacy-textured foliage to challenging landscape situations. Native to the mountainous regions of southeastern Siberia, this conifer forms a graceful, low-spreading mat with elegantly arching branches. While similar in appearance to low-growing junipers, it offers softer foliage and more refined texture. The green summer foliage transforms to striking bronze-purple hues in fall, with the most dramatic color display occurring in colder climates. Also known as Platycladus decusatta.

Microbiota Plant Care

This adaptable shrub thrives in average, well-drained soils and performs well in both full sun and partial shade locations. Remarkably cold-hardy. Prefers cooler summer temperatures and may struggle in hot, humid conditions. Intolerant of poorly drained soils. Plant away from walkways to allow natural spread, or trim occasionally to maintain desired shape. Once established requires minimal maintenance and no regular pruning.

Plantable Pots

Our plants are grown in 3.5x3.5x4” plantable pots. Made from 100% biodegradable coconut husk fibers (coir), these pots have tremendous advantages over plastic pots. With better air exchange, this "breathable" pot fosters robust root growth and reduces transplant shock since you can plant the pots directly in the ground. The pot naturally becomes part of the soil on its own over time—no composting required—and since they're made from a renewable resource that requires very little energy, they're earth-friendly too!
