Lavandula General Information

Lavandula are an indispensable member of the herb family, used for perfumes and potpourri. Use it in dry gardens, barren slopes, or bordering a sunny path. Its ornamental compact habit makes it a welcome addition to the perennial border. Evergreen in warmer zones. Semi-evergreen in north. Idaho has restricted all potted plant material from being shipped into Idaho at this time.

Lavandula Plant Care

Best in full sun and well-drained soil. Good drainage and air circulation is essential to success. In clay soils, may benefit from planting in raised beds. Cut back by 1/3 to 1/2 in spring when new foliage appears. Do not cut back in fall. These woody plants do not like to be divided. Sometimes stems root where they touch the soil and these plantlets can be transplanted in spring. May benefit from gravel mulch.
