Soggy Spot? No Problem
This clump-forming Iris thrives in a moist location – at home near a pond or stream bank, in a boggy area, or a rain garden. Flowers in late spring are bright purple with yellow signals. The upright, sword-like foliage of Iris Purple Flame emerges in early spring with eggplant purple leaves. As the weather warms, foliage reverts to green tones.

Iris General Information

Iris versicolor flaunt dazzling intricately patterned flowers that provide a bold splash of color atop narrow stems and sword-like foliage. They thrive in wet areas. Dense root systems prevent weeds as plants grow together in large clumps. Great on banks. Quite attractive to pollinators but not a favorite of deer. Idaho has restricted all potted plant material from being shipped into Idaho at this time.

Iris Plant Care

Iris versicolor prefers sunshine, moisture, and rich soil. Plant rhizomes just below the soil surface. If planted too deeply, the Iris won't bloom. Wear gloves when dividing the rhizomes. After fall frost, trim foliage to about 1" above the crown. Will slowly naturalize to form colonies.

Plantable Pots

Our plants are grown in 3.5x3.5x4” plantable pots. Made from 100% biodegradable coconut husk fibers (coir), these pots have tremendous advantages over plastic pots. With better air exchange, this "breathable" pot fosters robust root growth and reduces transplant shock since you can plant the pots directly in the ground. The pot naturally becomes part of the soil on its own over time—no composting required—and since they're made from a renewable resource that requires very little energy, they're earth-friendly too!
