Single Flowers in Deepest Black
There is nothing old-fashioned about these deep dark remarkable flowers. Numerous single-style blooms cover each tall flower spike towering over strong bushy foliage. The color is deepest black/purple. Hollyhocks self-sow easily. This series of Hollyhock is truly perennial; flowers blooming reliably with first-year performance. At home along walls, fences or perfect in the back of a border. This Alcea is from the Spotlight Series™ introduced by Jelitto Seeds in 2010. Hollyhocks will grow under Black Walnut trees. Hollyhocks are shipped during our spring shipping season only.

Hollyhock General Information

Hollyhock are perhaps the definitive old-fashioned garden plant. Flowering from late spring through summer, these are the tall stately flowers you looked up to in your grandmother's garden. Best selection for the coldest areas (zones 3 & 4), not for the gulf states. Idaho has restricted all potted plant material from being shipped into Idaho at this time.

Hollyhock Plant Care

Although biennial, allow seeds to fall and the clump will persist for many many years. May need staking. Rust (little orange dots on the leaves) can be a problem in high humidity and can be treated with a copper-based fungicide.

Plantable Pots

Our plants are grown in 3.5x3.5x4” plantable pots. Made from 100% biodegradable coconut husk fibers (coir), these pots have tremendous advantages over plastic pots. With better air exchange, this "breathable" pot fosters robust root growth and reduces transplant shock since you can plant the pots directly in the ground. The pot naturally becomes part of the soil on its own over time—no composting required—and since they're made from a renewable resource that requires very little energy, they're earth-friendly too!

100% Guarantee

We offer a 100% unconditional guarantee for all our perennials to reach you in good condition and to grow. If you're not satisfied, we'll reship or refund immediately. Please don't hesitate to contact us if you have questions or concerns—we share your passion for gardening and want your new plants to thrive in your border!
