Flowers are held at tips of long dark stems. The long wands sway and dance in the breeze, hence the its common name - Wand Flower. Bright white flowers with red sepals makes Whirling Butterflies the perfect whimsical specimen for your wildflower garden. More compact, very free flowering and won't self seed.

The airy texture provides a stunning accent in a mixed perennial border. A native to southern United States, Gaura will withstand heat and drought once established.

Gaura General Information

Gaura are vase-shaped plants that bloom from late spring until fall. Will thrive in high heat and humidity areas. Will need winter protection in far northern states. Idaho has restricted all potted plant material from being shipped into Idaho at this time.

Gaura Plant Care

Very tolerant of heat and drought. Needs good winter drainage. Airy habit responds to cutting back by one half when 12-15 inches tall to control height. Deep tap root dislikes transplanting. Will not self-sow. If needed, prune Gaura in spring to improve overwintering.
