Festuca arundinacea 'Glow Sticks' (PP34,648)
Festuca arundinacea (Tall Fescue) is a hardy, cool-season perennial grass native to Europe. This adaptable grass tolerates varied conditions, making it popular for lawns, erosion control, and ornamental landscaping. Cold-hardy, it maintains year-round green color and requires minimal maintenance. Also known as Lolium arundunaceum. Ornamental grasses are restricted in Oregon.
Festuca arundinacea performs best in dry to medium, well-draining, fertile soil with good organic matter content. Adaptable to various soil types including clay, but drainage and air circulation are essential. Best color in full sun but tolerates light shade. Light trimming maintains shape during growing season but leave foliage intact for winter interest and protection. Cut back foliage to 3-4 inches in early spring before new growth emerges. Tease out any dead blades of grass by hand combing through foliage. Though drought-tolerant once established, water deeply but infrequently, especially during establishment and summer dry spells. Cannot tolerate waterlogged conditions. Divide overgrown clumps every 2-3 years in spring to maintain vigor and prevent center dieback.
