Dicentra 'Eximia'
Dicentra eximia is a native wildflower of the eastern United States typically found on forest floors, in rocky woods, and ledges in the Appalachian Mountains. Dicentra are classics in the shade garden, known for arching sprays of heart-shaped flowers. Perfect for brightening up shady areas such as a woodland garden, along a path, or tucked in under shrubs. Fern-like foliage and blooms appear in spring, and bloom time can continue into summer. In hot climates, it may stop blooming in summer and rebloom in fall. Consistent moisture will ensure a long bloom period. Spring shipping only.
Likes highly fertile, well-drained soil that is consistently moist. Intolerant of wet soil in winter and dry soil in summer. Does not require pruning but if desired, after all flowers fade, cut stems down to basal foliage - this can extend bloom into fall. Naturalizes by self-seeding in favorable environments.
Our plants are grown in 3.5x3.5x4” plantable pots. Made from 100% biodegradable coconut husk fibers (coir), these pots have tremendous advantages over plastic pots. With better air exchange, this "breathable" pot fosters robust root growth and reduces transplant shock since you can plant the pots directly in the ground. The pot naturally becomes part of the soil on its own over time—no composting required—and since they're made from a renewable resource that requires very little energy, they're earth-friendly too!
