Clematis General Information

Clematis are prized for their incredible flowers, most as large as your hand. "Queen of the Climbers" will train onto trellises, fences or arch over doorways. Stunning when used alone or when several colors are mixed. Grower's tip: Truest colors require full sun, as any shade will introduce purple tones. Flower color and bloom size may vary while the plant is establishing. Want to sort by pruning type? Idaho has restricted all potted plant material from being shipped into Idaho at this time.

Clematis Plant Care

Pruning Type 2: Flowers are produced on last year's growth, but pruning is recommended. In early spring watch for swelling leaf buds beginning to show. Cut all dead material off above these swelling buds. Also, loosely train/tie the vines to their trellis at this time also. If intertwining Clematis, pruning will be easier if you select varieties with the same pruning type. Want to sort by pruning type? In the main search box, type Type 1, Type 2 or Type 3 to group them together.

Plantable Pots

Our plants are grown in 3.5x3.5x4” plantable pots. Made from 100% biodegradable coconut husk fibers (coir), these pots have tremendous advantages over plastic pots. With better air exchange, this "breathable" pot fosters robust root growth and reduces transplant shock since you can plant the pots directly in the ground. The pot naturally becomes part of the soil on its own over time—no composting required—and since they're made from a renewable resource that requires very little energy, they're earth-friendly too!
