Baptisia General Information

A very permanent and arresting perennial with a vase shape, 3-4' tall. Blue/green foliage on silver stems is topped by soft lupine-like flowers from late spring into summer. The black seedpods can be left on for additional ornamental effect or used in dried arrangements. Extremely long lived, so pick a good spot! Idaho has restricted all potted plant material from being shipped into Idaho at this time.

Baptisia Plant Care

Long-lived and typically trouble-free, Baptisia will reach shrub-like proportions at maturity. Baptisia may need 2-3 years of maturity before producing significant flowering but so worth the wait! Good in poor soils. Dislikes being moved when mature. Late fall or spring cleanup may be preferred. Cut to 4-6" when foliage blackens with the cold.
