Stunning Three-Season Interest!
Captivating foliage emerges smoky olive-green. Dazzling, sky-blue, star-shaped flower clusters in late spring blanket the foliage mounds. After flowering, leaves lighten to brighter green with prominent chartreuse midribs and then golden in the fall. Heat/humidity tolerant, and deer resistant; Amsonia Starstruck is an excellent choice for gardeners looking for low maintenance perennials. You may know this beauty by its common name, Blue Star.

Amsonia General Information

Amsonia are low maintenance mid-western and southern natives that are easy to grow and unbothered by pests or insects. Plants are fairly drought tolerant once established. Exceptional fall foliage color extends the appeal. Adapts to most conditions. Becomes leggy in too much shade. Optimum effect when massed. Idaho has restricted all potted plant material from being shipped into Idaho at this time.

Amsonia Plant Care

Easy to grow, best in a moist, fertile soil. Can tolerate wet soils for short periods. Shear back by one third after flowering to maintain a more compact plant. Snap off mature seed pods to prevent over seeding. Bluestars will readily cross pollinate with other Amsonia nearby. Clumps can be divided in spring but this is generally not needed for 6 years or more.

Plantable Pots

Our plants are grown in 3.5x3.5x4” plantable pots. Made from 100% biodegradable coconut husk fibers (coir), these pots have tremendous advantages over plastic pots. With better air exchange, this "breathable" pot fosters robust root growth and reduces transplant shock since you can plant the pots directly in the ground. The pot naturally becomes part of the soil on its own over time—no composting required—and since they're made from a renewable resource that requires very little energy, they're earth-friendly too!

100% Guarantee

We offer a 100% unconditional guarantee for all our perennials to reach you in good condition and to grow. If you're not satisfied, we'll reship or refund immediately. Please don't hesitate to contact us if you have questions or concerns—we share your passion for gardening and want your new plants to thrive in your border!
