Amsonia tabernaemontana 'Starstruck' (PP32,246)
Amsonia tabernaemontana are low maintenance Great Plains, Midwest, Northeast, and Southern US natives that are easy to grow and unbothered by pests or insects. Exceptional fall foliage color extends the appeal. Adapts to most conditions. Optimum effect when massed.
Easy to grow, best in a moist, fertile soil. Tolerant of a wide range of soil types including clay. Can tolerate wet soil for short periods. Best fall foliage color usually occurs in full sun, but flowers generally last longer if given some afternoon shade in hotter zones. Stems tend to open up and flop in too much shade. Shear back by one third after flowering to maintain a more compact plant. Snip off mature seed pods to prevent over seeding. Will readily cross pollinate with other Amsonia nearby. Clumps can be divided in spring, but this is generally not needed for 6 years or more.
Our plants are grown in 3.5x3.5x4” plantable pots. Made from 100% biodegradable coconut husk fibers (coir), these pots have tremendous advantages over plastic pots. With better air exchange, this "breathable" pot fosters robust root growth and reduces transplant shock since you can plant the pots directly in the ground. The pot naturally becomes part of the soil on its own over time—no composting required—and since they're made from a renewable resource that requires very little energy, they're earth-friendly too!
We offer a 100% guarantee for all our perennials to reach you in good condition and to grow. If you're not satisfied, we'll reship or refund immediately.
