Brilliant red, upward-facing trumpets cluster atop stiff stems each cradling a yellow 5-pointed star. It appears as though nature designed individual vases to hold each star. This striking SE United States native is most at home in the bright woodland or shaded border.

Spigelia is a long-lived perennial and provides stunning color for the summer garden. Indian Pink will flower in early summer then sporadically throughout the growing season. Lush foliage is bright green. Hummingbirds love this beauty too! Will readily self-sow.

Spigelia General Information

Spigelia are native to SE United States and seen growing in moist woods and along stream banks. A mature clump of Spigelia Marilandica may have more than 75 flowering stalks at once. Hummingbirds adore this plant. Green seed capsules ripen to black and pop open to widely disperse seeds.

Spigelia Plant Care

Prefers moist, but well-drained, organically rich soils. Can tolerate some sun as long as sufficient moisture is provided.
