2010 Perennial Plant Association's Plant of the Year. Mounds of clover-like blue green foliage is the base for the blue-lavender, lupine-like flowers in early summer. Baptisia Australis has dark seed pods formed in fall that are a good counterpoint in cut flower arrangements. A carefree plant.

Baptisia General Information:

A very permanent and arresting perennial with a vase shape, 3-4' tall. Blue/green foliage on silver stems is topped by soft lupine-like flowers from late spring into summer. The black seedpods can be left on for additional ornamental effect or used in dried arrangements. Extremely long lived, so pick a good spot!

Baptisia Plant Care:

Long-lived and typically trouble-free, Baptisia will reach shrub-like proportions at maturity. Good in poor soils. Dislikes being moved when mature. Late fall or spring cleanup may be preferred. Cut to 4-6" when foliage blackens with the cold.
