Aster General Information

Novi-belgii Asters are native to the United States and often seen growing in moist marsh-like conditions. Asters are invaluable in the hardy border, adding superb color in the autumn. Very durable and long lived. Even heavy, wet soils will suit them; however, requires well-drained soil to overwinter. Richer soils will generally yield taller plants. Mounds of color begin in September, in a full range of colors. Asters support bees and butterflies right up until season's end. Idaho has restricted all potted plant material from being shipped into Idaho at this time.

Aster Plant Care

Pinch back and divide like mums for best display. General rule of thumb is to pinch until 4th of July and not after. Pinching yields better branching and more flowers. Can be divided every 2-3 years in spring. Avoid wet overwintering conditions. Remove spent flowers to prevent reseeding.

Plantable Pots

Our plants are grown in 3.5x3.5x4” plantable pots. Made from 100% biodegradable coconut husk fibers (coir), these pots have tremendous advantages over plastic pots. With better air exchange, this "breathable" pot fosters robust root growth and reduces transplant shock since you can plant the pots directly in the ground. The pot naturally becomes part of the soil on its own over time—no composting required—and since they're made from a renewable resource that requires very little energy, they're earth-friendly too!
