Spectacular fall color and cold hardiness make this Miscanthus stand out. Foliage shows maroon wash turning reddish orange in fall - contrasting nicely with the feathery white plumes. Reddish-tinged flowers appear on tassel-like plumes above the foliage in late summer and in fall gradually become creamy white. Burgundy foliage and creamy white plumes remain long into winter. Picture-perfect with sunshine highlighting the silky plumes.

General Information:

Miscanthus are the royalty of the grass kingdom, with billowy texture, silky tassels, many different heights and colorations, and great winter interest. Seeds are carried by a feathery plume above the plant. Pleasing sound when rustling in the wind. Deer resistant. Good for hot dry spots, also dries easily. Ornamental grasses are restricted from Oregon.

Plant Care:

Cut foliage back in late winter before new shoots appear. Divide in late spring when needed. Shear back foliage, divide clumps with a sharp spade, and discard woody centers. Replant divisions and water well. May self sow for our Southern gardeners. Cut off plumes to prevent seeding. Benefits from a well drained winter site.
