Lupine General Information:

Lupine are magnificent in bloom and long-lived. Require lots of moisture during hot summers. Lupines dislike lime. If you are having trouble with them, try a few handfuls of peat in the planting hole. Deadheading to prevent seed formation can help with overwintering. Not a good choice for the humid Gulf states.

Lupine Plant Care:

Deadhead to prolong blooming. Cut back approx. 6 in mid-late July, then not again until spring to remove winter kill. May require some staking. Needs winter protection in Northern gardens. A light mulch would be beneficial. Division is difficult due to the long tap root, but side shoots can be removed and replanted in the spring.
