Commanding color of Mrs. N. Thompson demands attention - deep blue red petals with a scarlet central bar. Blooms May, June, and September. Large flowers (4-6"). Meandering over fences, trellises, or through shrubbery clematis supplies vertical interest to any garden.
General Information:
Clematis are prized for their large, showy flowers. "Queen of the climbers" will train onto trellises, fences, or arch over doorways. Only needs to have its roots shaded and its flowers in the sun. Stunning when used alone or when several colors are mixed. Note: Flower color and bloom size may vary while the plant is establishing.
Plant Care:
Pruning Type 2 - In this group all first flowering comes from last season's ripening stems. In early Spring watch for swelling leaf buds beginning to show. Cut all dead material off above these swelling buds. Be sure all growth is tied to the trellis, etc. at this time. Do not tie too tightly, so growth will not be hampered or cracked by tying too tight.
