Deep green blades with a strong vertical feel. Among the earliest flowering of the grasses, with extra fluffy fronds with deep purple accents. As the seeds mature the flower stalks turn golden and take on the appearance of shafts of wheat. Calamagrostis Karl Foerster is sterile and will not self-sow. General Information:
Calamagrostis are prized for the bold vertical accent that they lend to the border. Among the earliest flowering grasses, they are very mannerly and stay attractive all winter. Thrives in clay and wet soils. Ornamental grasses are restricted from Oregon.
Plant Care:
Cut back in early spring before new growth appears. Divide in spring or fall.
