Mounds of clover-like blue green foliage is the base for the blue-lavender lupine-like flowers in early summer. Baptisia Australis has black seed pods formed in fall that are a good counterpoint in cut flower arrangements. A carefree plant. P.P.A. Plant of the Year 2010.

Baptisia General Information:

A very permanent and arresting perennial with a vase shape, 3-4'. Blue/green foliage on silver stems is topped by soft lupine-like flowers from late spring into summer. The black seedpods can be left on for additional ornamental effect or used in dried arrangements. Extremely long lived, so pick a good spot!

Baptisia Plant Care:

Can be slow to establish but will reach shrub like proportions. Good in poor soils. Dislikes being moved when mature. Late fall or spring cleanup may be preferred. Cut to 4-6 when foliage blackens with the cold.
